Why do we all want scary for Halloween well I guess it is the time for witches so we got to go with the nasty scary outfits. But it is All Saints night not all baddies night or is it. A merging of Christian and Pagan beliefs have left us with a night of pranks and dressing up as all issues evil.
Contemporary Traditional Halloween is all about childish pranks and the way to steer clear of such a prank becoming played on you is to give goodies to the kids knocking at your door, all fantastic enjoyable and no harm accomplished.
But in reality Halloween is born from an old Celtic Festival which celebrated the end of summer, the end of the days of light as we then entered winter the days of Darkness. The belief was that at this time with plants dying and trees shedding their leaves that we were in a time of danger when the veil between life and death was really week and that the dead could rise once more. Bonfires had been set so that if you passed between them your soul would be protected from the dead attempting to rise once again.
The wearing of masks was to placate the evil spirits and mirror them and thereby protect you from them as was the carving of Turnips, now Americanised to Pumpkins with a smiley face to again appease the evil spirits set no cost for this 1 day, in fact it was 2 days back in the day.
The 80s saw the beginning of what we now refer to as slasher movies with Friday the 13th and Halloween beginning out on their long journey of sequels. But it also saw the classic Vampire movie The Lost Boys which in some approaches allowed us to see Vampires as the individuals they when were, Boys who Lost their Souls, The Lost Boys is an absolute classic.
To dress as a vampire might possibly seem ridiculously straightforward and so several don't, but what is a far better way to celebrate the day when the dead could rise once again and capture your body than to be the ultimate Un-dead a Vampire.
The TV and movies are full of vampires in all shapes and sizes and thus you can be contemporary whilst ancient specifically what Halloween is all about.
If not your cup of tea then dress as the un-dead or the grim reaper all especially proper for this night of "All Saints"
